Description

The center is occupied by a mannerist vase in embossed, chiseled silver and full of flowers. A squirrel, intent on eating a nut, is attached to the foot of the vase by means of a thin gold chain. On either side, two smaller gilded metal vases, also full of partially wilted flowers. To the right, a parrot. The composition could be read as a kind of vanitas or as an allegory of the stages of life.
