Description

This oval in polychrome stone on black background comes from the d’Avalos collection and probably portrays Cesare Michelangelo d’Avalos, 8th Marquis del Vasto (1667-1729). This relief, carved in soft stones and set in an oval, is possibly the work of Giacomo Colombo (1663-1731), a Neapolitan sculptor who first specialized in polychrome wood sculpture, and then moved on to working on marble funeral monuments.
