Description

The scene is set in a smithy. Venus is attempting to seduce Vulcan as a way to convince him to give her weapons for her mortal son, Aeneas. According to Alastair Lang, this painting was produced by Boucher together with another canvas depicting Aeneas’s Apotheosis for Louis XV’s bedroom at the Château de Marly.
