Artist:mid 18th century Venetian manufacture
Date:mid 18th century
Geographic area :Venice
Technique:lacquered, painted, and gilded carved wood
Extraordinary example of Venetian rococo, this pair of rounded, sinuous commodes is noteworthy for its refined turquoise green varnish decorated with flowering branches and its lavish gilded reliefs. These Venetian chests of drawers were intended for ceremonial halls and often were parts of a set of two or four elements. Unfortunately, over time, these sets have nearly all been separated, so it is rare to find a pair like those in the Zani collection.
